Bayonet

Jake Powell’s apricot- and apple-inflected cocktail is hard to dissect. It looks like an Old-Fashioned—served in a rocks glass over a large ice cube with an orange twist—but is built like a Manhattan variation, with a split base of Cognac, Calvados, and apricot eau de vie plus sweet vermouth and the bitter artichoke-y notes of Cynar. Whatever you want to call it, this uniquely built cocktail is approachable yet deliciously complex. 

¾ ounce Hine Cognac
½ ounce Roger Groult Calvados
½ ounce Blume Marillen Apricot Eau de Vie
½ ounce Cynar
¾ ounce Cocchi Vermouth di Torino
Garnish: 1 orange twist

Stir all the ingredients with ice, then strain into a double old-fashioned glass over 1 large ice cube. Garnish with the orange twist.
