I've always been a huge fan of the classic bourbon old-fashioned, and I really wanted my first foray into creating a new version to have little pieces of me and my passions in its roots while not detracting from the star of the show. One of my first spirit loves was rum, more specifically Jamaican rum. I included Rum Fire as a small modifier to pay homage to that, and to use its beautiful alcoholic punch and esters to bolster the fruitiness of the raspberry liqueur. Another favorite of mine is any alpine liqueur, hence the Braulio, which brings bright herbaceous flavors to act as a contrast to the vanilla and caramel notes in the Yellowstone bourbon. This is a perfect old-fashioned to drink on a warm day, as it’s boozy and lightly refreshing at the same time.” —JS

1¾ ounces Yellowstone Select bourbon
1 teaspoon Braulio amaro
1 teaspoon Giffard Crème de Framboise raspberry liqueur
½ teaspoon Hampden Estate Rum Fire overproof rum
½ teaspoon Demerara Syrup (see Note)
2 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
Garnish: 1 lemon twist

Stir all the ingredients over ice, then strain into a single old-fashioned glass over 1 large ice cube. Express the lemon twist over the drink, then place it in the drink.

Note: To make demerara syrup, combine 2 parts demerara sugar and 1 part water in a sauce pan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar has dissolved. Transfer to a storage container and refrigerate until ready to use, up to 2 months.
